When my job shut down during the pandemic, I was a struggling single mom trying to figure out how to make ends meet. I'd never worked online before - my social media use was mostly scrolling, laughing at videos, and keeping up with old friends. I was a complete beginner.
I knew I wanted something that allowed me to stay home with my baby at the time, so I started exploring ways to make money online. I spent countless hours teaching myself different income streams, but everything shifted when I discovered UGC. (And at the time, I had no idea that was just the beginning ... ).
Learning how to create content that actually sells opened doors I didn't even know existed. I dove into digital marketing, affiliate income, and advanced service roles - where I could charge 10x what I did as a UGC creator. I started stacking income streams to hit consistent, 5- figure months.
It felt like I stumbled into my dream scenario: using my creativity to make more money (without working more), and finally having financial stability that didn't just rely on brand deals.
After working with 150+ DTC brands, I landed my first advanced role as a Creative Director - a $12K contract over 12 weeks, part-time. It felt like a huge win (even though I definitely undercharged - but that's a story for another day). More importantly, that role opened my eyes: I could take the creative work I loved and evolve it into premium services that actually paid well. That's when things really started to take off.
I got hired for full-time social media management positions, landed multiple creative strategist roles, and eventually stepped into a full-time Creative Director position-managing campaigns for an entire marketing agency. I remember thinking ... is this real life?
After scaling into advanced roles, I started working closely with marketing and agency owners on a daily basis. Sitting in countless brand meetings, strategy sessions, sales calls, and budget discussions - I started to truly understand what brands are actually looking for in creators. Some things I had already figured out myself through trial and error, but others made me go, "Oof ... no wonder that brand never emailed me back. I used to do that."
I also realized how much money brands pay agencies. For the longest time, I thought some brands just didn't have a big creative budget - that's why creators were getting offered $25-$50 for a UGC video. Turns out, most agencies are just taking a huge cut of it. (Sorry, but it's true.)
After all the ups and downs, the learning (and unlearning), scaling past UGC and wanting more for the creator community ... I realized something was missing.
I wanted to build a single space that had it all: education, support, community, brand deals, ongoing training, and paid opportunities. A space where creators could grow into their best selves and scale their business without limits.
As a result, the Creative Wealth Society was born.
